ISRO tests indigenous cryogenic engine

  • An indigenous cryogenic rocket engine being developed to power India’s most powerful rocket system, the GSLV Mk III, successful endurance test for a duration of 800 seconds at ISRO’s propulsion complex at Mahendragiri
  • The cryogenic engine which will power the upper stage of the GSLV Mk III was fired for a period that is 25 per cent longer than required in a space flight with a nominal thrust of 19 tonnes and its performance matched prediction made through computer simulation
  • The cryogenic C25 stage engine operates on Gas Generator Cycle using extremely low temperature propellants Liquid Hydrogen at 20 Kelvin (-253 degree C) and Liquid Oxygen at 80 Kelvin

India, Singapore sign key agreement to boost maritime

  • India and Singapore signed an agreement on sharing white-shipping information to enhance maritime cooperation between the two navies as visiting Navy chief Admiral RK Dhowan held talks with top defence officials
  • Dhowan held talks with Chief of Defence Force Lt-Gen Ng Chee Meng and Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral (RADM) Lai Chung Han after inspecting a Guard of Honour at Ministry of Defence
  • Dhowan's visit underscores the warm and longstanding defence relations between Singapore and India, which have strengthened over the years since the signing of the Defence Cooperation Agreement in 2003

Carlos Santana, Marlon James and Naomi Klien win American Book Awards


  • Carlos Santana, Marlon James and Naomi Klien are the winners of 36th annual American Book Awards
  • Santana wons the award for the memoir The Universal Tone, James won the award for A Brief Story Of Seven Killing and Klien for her environmental work This Changes Every Thing- Capitalism Vs The Climate
  • The award are presented by the Before Columbus Foundation which is a nonprofit educational and service organisation founded in 1976
