Indian-American R.Paul Singh won World Agriculture Prize laureate

  • Indian-American professor R. Paul Singh won the 2015 Global Confederation for Higher Education Associations for Agriculture and Life Sciences World Agriculture Prize laureate
  • The award will be presented on September 20, during a ceremony at Nanjing Agricultural University, Jiangsu Province, China
  • The award was announced at Global Confederation of Higher Education Associations for the Agricultural and Life Sciences (GCHERA) conference
  • Mr. Singh got bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering at India’s Punjab Agricultural University and master’s degree and Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Michigan State University, respectively
  • Singh is known for a body of research in areas such as energy conservation, freezing preservation, post-harvest technology and mass transfer in food processing
  • Mr. Singh and his research group created food-processing equipment for a manned mission to Mars as a contract for NASA

Devyani Khobragade reinstated as director in MEA's state division

  • Devyani Khobragade, the 1999-batch IFS officer whose arrest in New York in 2013 over alleged visa fraud, has been reinstated as director in the ministry of external affairs
  • After the Visa fraud case against her she was stripped off from his duties
  • Khobragade was stripped of her responsibilities with the ministry in December last year after she gave interviews to the media
  • US still has not withdrawn the allegations against her

Airbus to build military choppers in India with Mahindra

  • Europe's Airbus Group(AIR.PA) and India's Mahindra Group deal to build helicopters jointly as they bid to win an expected wave of orders from the country's armed forces
  • The two groups will form a joint venture in the coming months, aiming to become the first private manufacturer of helicopters in India
  • Airbus Helicopters, part of Airbus Group, is joining forces with Mahindra after talking to several Indian companies that are investing hundreds of millions of dollars investment on the government's push to build arms at home
  • Under current rules, foreign ownership in joint ventures in India's defence industry is limited to 49 percent

Indian-American Darshan Jain among math, science teachers honoured by US President Barack Obama

  • Indian American teacher got the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching among 108 teachers named by President Barack Obama
  • The winners will get 10,000 $ award each from National Science Foundation
  • Jain, who has taught mathematics at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois for eight years where he currently serves as the director of mathematics
