1st ‘gender-neutral’ degree handed out by NALSAR varsity

  • NALSAR Law University in Hyderabad issued a gender-neutral graduation certificate to a student who did not wish to be identified with honorific Mr or Ms but with “Mx”
  • Anindita Mukherjee, who graduated this year from the law school, had requested the authorities to address her as “Mx” 
  • The university, which has probably become the first Indian educational institution to do so 
  • Supreme Court last year acknowledged transgenders as the ‘third gender’

With International Yoga Day at Rajpath, India Sets Two Guinness World Records in a Day

  • The Rajpath event broke the record for the largest yoga class, with 35,985 people performing is the first record
  • Previous record at Gwalior's Jiwaji University, with 29,973 people
  • The other record set at Rajpath was for the largest number of nationalities at a yoga event
  • Two-member team from London of Guinness World Records was in Delhi to oversee the arrangements for the International Day of Yoga

India, S Africa renew science and technology cooperation pact

  • The two countries have renewed the agreement to extend cooperation of social innovation, astronomy, agriculture, biotechnology and indigenous knowledge systems for the next three years.
  • In this year marks 20 years of successful science and technology cooperation between South Africa and India
  • Head of International Bilateral Cooperation in India's Department of Science and Technology is Dr Arabinda Mitra
  • Relations between the two in science and technology sets in 1995 when they signed a bilateral agreement
