Soumyajit Ghosh to head India At Japan, Korean Open Table Tennis

  • Soumyajit Ghosh, Devesh Karia, Ankita Das and Mouma Das  left for Kobe on Tuesday to participate in the GAC Group World Tour Japan Open 
  • Vijaysarathy Seshadri from Chennai is the coach
  • The four members were chosen to represent India on the basis of their national raking
  • The same team, after completing their task at Kobe, will fly directly to Seoul for the World Tour Korean Open event

India Set to Record Highest Coffee Production in 2015-16

  • India's total coffee output has made a record of 3,27,000 tonnes in the year 2014-15 coffee (one coffee year runs from October to September)
  • Arabica and Robusta are the varieties of coffee, Arabica production is at 1,10,300 tonnes and  Robusta production is at 2,45,300 tonnes
  • The most amount of production is expected to come from Karnataka
  • India accounts for only 4-5 per cent of the world's output, but exports 70-80 per cent of its produce
  • Italy, Russia and Germany are the top three buyers of Indian coffee

James Horner, Film Composer Dies in Plane Crash

  • The composer of Titanic died in a plane crash near Santa Barbara on June 22
  • He was piloting a single-engine S312 Tucano turboprop plane which crashed about 60 miles north of Santa Barbara
  • In the 1997 best picture winner Titanic, directed by James Cameron, Horner captured the Oscar for original dramatic score, and he got Academy Award for the song “My Heart Will Go On,” performed by Celine Dion.
  • He also received noms for An American Tail (1986), Field of Dreams (1989), Apollo 13 (1995) and House of Sand and Fog(2003).
