Former Indian women hockey captain Shashi Bala passes away

  • Former Indian women hockey cpatain Shashi Bala passed away today at the age of 45
  • Shashi Bala and her son were killed in a road accident in Punjab
  • Bala made her international debut in 1987 and was a member of the national team in the 1998
  • She was captain of the Indian team during the 1997 FIH Women World Cup

First International Yoga Day observed globally

  • International Yoga Day June 21, was declared as the International Day of United Nations on December 11, 2014
  • Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice or discipline that originated in India
  • The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN Address suggested the date to be June 21 as the International Day of Yoga as it is the longest day of the year (Summer Solstice) in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world
  • The first international day of Yoga was observed world over on June 21, 2015

Sanjay Subrahmanyan selected for Sangita Kalanidhi award

  • Sanjay Subrahmanyan has been selected for this year's Sangita Kalanidhi award
  • He is a Karnatic Vocalist
  • He has performed widely in India and overseas and has won many awards for his performances
  • He received the title of "Gaana Padhmam" from the Brahma Gana Sabha in December 2013
  • In 2010 he received the title "Vani-kala-sudhakara" from Tyaga Brahma Gana Sabha in 2010

London, Bangkok, New York most searched travel spots by Indians

  • According to a recent survey London tops the list of most searched global summer holiday and Bangkok and New York were in the two and three
  • The survey was conducted by the global travel search site Skyscanner
  • London emerged as most popular destination with 53 per cent increase in overall searches from India
  • According to Skyscanner, tourists stay an average of 22 days in London.
