India eases norms to facilitate relief supply to Nepal

  • In a movement of relief supplies sent by foreign governments and agencies like Red Cross and UN to quake-hit Nepal, New Delhi has waived security deposits and increased transit points from two to eight
  • According to officials, the government had received requests from international organisations and other countries for facilitating movement of relief supplies to Nepal
  • The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) under the Finance ministry has notified a “simplified transit procedure” for transit of relief cargo to Nepal. This procedure would be applicable for six months and could be further extended for a period mutually agreed upon by Indian and Nepal governments

DGCA begins probe into radioactive leak at IGI Airport

  • Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has started its probe into the leak of radioactive substance, which had come from Turkey, at the cargo complex of IGI Airport here this morning
  • The radioactive material leak was observed at the IGI Airport after a consignment which included liquid sodium iodide and sodium molybdate arrived from Istanbul by Turkish Airlines flight TK-716 at 04:32 hours today
  • The affected area has been cordoned off, the statement said, adding that flight operations at the airport, however, was not affected

Sepp Blatter re-elected as FIFA President 

  • Sepp Blatter has been re-elected as the Federation International Football Association (FIFA) President
  • He is elected for the fifth time for a fifth term.
  • His rival candidate, Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan conceded defeat before final voting went into a second round.

V A Prasanth appointed as CFO of Indian Bank

  • Indian Bank General Manager V A Prasanth has been appointed as the new CFO of the bank with immediate effect
  • Prasanth succeeded K Srinivasa Raghavan
