- May 26 : Narendra Modi is sworn in as the 15th Prime Minister of India.
- May 26 : Theatre director Roysten Abel, famous for his play The Manganiyar Seduction, now returns with The Manganiyar Classroom. The Manganiyars are a caste of singers and instrumentalists from Rajasthan state in northern India. The Manganiyar Seduction is a theatrical presentation of their ecstatic music-making, mixing Muslim and Hindu traditions.
- May 8 : India on 8 May 2014 launched its own payment gateway 'RuPay', equivalent of Visa and Mastercard, which will work on ATMs and mechant outlets and help in reducing cash transactions. President Pranab Mukherjee unveiled the indigenous card at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan. RuPay, which works on three channels -- ATMs, Point of Sales (POS) and online sales, is the seventh such payment gateway in the world. The RuPay card is accepted at all ATMs (1.6 lakh plus), 95 per cent of PoS terminals (9.45 lakh plus) and most of the eCom merchants (about 10,000) in the country.
- May 8 : Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission refers former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to face impeachment charges in the Senate over a failed rice subsidy scheme.
- May 5 : The opposition leader Juan Carlos Varela has won the Presidential election in Panama with almost 40 percent of the votes. Mr Varela, who is currently the country's Vice President, had distanced himself from President Ricardo Martinelli.
- May 3 : The 61st National Film Awards are presented by the President of India to honour the best films of 2013 in Indian cinema.
- May 3 : Gulzar receives Dadasaheb Phalke Award while Ship of Theseus wins the Best Feature Film award.
