2014 CURRENT AFFAIRS-JANUARY

  • January 1 : Latvia officially adopts the Euro as its currency and becomes the 18th member of the Eurozone.
  • January 2 : The Swedish Academy releases secret documents of the 1963 Nobel Prize in Literature that ultimately was awarded the Greek poet Giorgos Seferis, revealing that writers such as Samuel Becket and Vladimir Nabokov were dismissed early in the selection process.
  • January 5 : In cricket, the 2013-14 Ashes series concludes with Australia whitewashing England 5-0 to regain The Ashes after 7 years.
  • January 10 : Google allows users to communicate with each other on Google Plus even if they are not friends.
  • January 13 : China conducts the test of a new hypersonic missile vehicle, dubbed the "WU-14", which has top speeds of Mach 8 to Mach 12. The weapon was launched on an ICBM.
