Jwala-Ashwini pair wins Canada Open
- Jwala Gutta and Aswini Ponnappa won the Canada Open women's doubles title
- They won 21-19, 21-16 in the contest which lasted 35 minutes
- This was Jwala and Ashwini's first title since their reunion after the 2012 London Olympics
- The pair defeated Dutch pair of Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek
India, Thailand sign multiple agreements
- India and Thailand signed a number of important agreements, including the double taxation avoidance treaty, and exchanged instruments of ratification
- Tax treaty avoid double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion and there by to promote bilateral economic cooperation
- External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in a three day visit to Thailand, she co chaired with seventh India-Thailand joint commission for bilateral co-operation
- The agreements were signed by Swaraj and Thai deputy prime minister and foreign minister Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn
Chennai Metro Rail flagged off by chief minister J Jayalalitha
- The first train of the Chennai Metro Rail chugged off from Alandur Station in Chennai on Monday after being flagged off by chief minister J Jayalalithaa
- Chief Minister inaugurated it by flagging it off via live video from the State Secretariat in Chennai
- The first train which left at 12.15 PM from Alandur to Koyambedu was driven by A Preethi.
- Alandur metro station, the biggest in Chennai, was brimming with activity
