Syrian woman Journalist Zaina Erhaim wins 2015 Peter Mackler Award

  • A Syria-based woman journalist Zaina Erhaim has won the prestigious 2015 Peter Mackler Award for Courageous and Ethical Journalism
  • She was bestowed with this award for her efforts to train citizen reporters in her war-ravaged country
  • She has trained about 100 citizen reporters (third of them are women) from inside Syria over the last two years
  • She also has helped in establishing new, independent newspapers and magazines in the war-torn country. Presently, Erhaim lives and works in Aleppo, Syria and will be presented with this award at a ceremony to be held at the National Press Club in Washington in late October 2015

  • Aditi Ashok Becomes First Indian to Win Ladies British Amateur Golf Championship
  • She earlier won the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews in July this year and finished second in the 2015 European Women's Amateur Championship, also claimed the overall title called 'The Nicholls Trophy' as well as the 'Dinwiddy Trophy' given for the lowest score by an U-18 player
  • In her wining game, Aditi shot a four-day total of 11-under 285 (comprising 71, 73, 70, 71) at the par 74 at the Moortown Golf Club, Leeds

Arthur Morris, Australian cricketer died

  • Cricket legend and Australian Invincibles member Arthur Morris has died at the age of 93
  • Morris’ first class career was stellar, with 162 matches reaping 12,614 runs at an average of 53.67, with 46 centuries and a best of 290
  • He made 12 centuries, with a highest score of 206, and also one of the most overlooked tons in the history of cricket – he was “up the other end making 196” as Don Bradman was dismissed for a duck in his final innings, during the final Test of the 1948 Ashes tour

Usain Bolt wins world 100m title at World Athletics Championships

  • Usain Bolt Jamacian Athlat won the 100 metre title in the World Athletic Championships which held at Beijing
  • After two years of uncertainty, Usain Bolt produced his biggest clutch performance to beat rival Justin Gatlin on Sunday in the 100m final at the World Championships with a lunge at the line here on Sunday
  • Usain Bolt won in 9.79 seconds and  Justin Gatlin's who won the silver in 9.80secs
  • He is also the first to achieve a “double double” by winning 100 m and 200 m titles at consecutive Olympics (2008 and 2012)
