100 cities to turn smart cities

*The Union Cabinet declared on e of the favourite project of PM Narendra Modi,  100 smart cities spread across the country 

*A new urban renewal mission named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee, replacing the  existing name of Jawahar Lal Nehru, with a total outlay of nearly 100,000 crore

*Also the Atal Misssion for Rejuvanation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) of 500 cities with a 50,000 crore

Corruption will be a heinous crime

*The Union Cabinet approved amendments  the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988

*It providing for classifying corruption as a heinous crime and longer prison for bribe giver and bribe taker

*The proposed amendment act will also ensure the speed trial limited to two years for corruption cases.

*The measures approved include penal provision being enhanced from minimum 6 months to 3 years and maximum 5 years to seven years

Pakistan must open Wagah for trade

*President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani is upset with Pakistan overs its refusal to allow the direct trade with India via Wagah border

*Also Ghani said if the deadlock continues we will not provide access to Central Asia

*At present Pakistan allows Afghan trucks carrying goods meant for India only up to its own last checkpoint at Wagah and not to India check point at Attari

Logo For International Day of Yoga Launched

*The logo for International Day of Yoga was launched on 29 April  by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik. 

*The United Nations General Assembly had on December 11 adopted an India-led resolution declaring June 21 as the ‘International Day of Yoga. 

*The logo was selected by the Committee of Yoga experts.

*It was constituted by Union Ministry of AYUSH and has been approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mukesh Khanna Appointed as new Chairperson of CFSI

*Actor and producer Mukesh Khanna has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Children Film Society of India (CFSI). 

*He was appointed by Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as successor of Amole Gupte. 

*Actor-director Amole Gupte, who took the post in 2012, had resigned from the office in June 2014.
