West Bengal to Add 17,000 Beds in State Hospitals
- West Bengal government has decided to invest Rs. 2,600 crore to add 17,000 more hospital beds in 2015-16
- The total number of hospital beds is 63,000 and it would become 80,000 after addition of the proposed 17,000 beds
- The private sector capacity is 30,000

- Umoja conducted a survey of 50 hotels across the country found that many hotels had made modification to meet the accessibility of their guest
- Umoja will be a new move in the tourist sector
Historian Ramachandra Guha to be conferred with Japan’s prestigious Fukuoka Prize
- Historian-author Ramachandra Guha has been selected for Japan’s Fukuoka Prize in the Academic category
- The is Prize to honour those who have made contributions to academia, arts and culture across Asia
- Other winners of the year are Thant Myint-U (Grand Prize) and Minh Hanh (Arts and Culture)
- Previous winners of Fukuoka Awards include Mohammad Yunus, Romila Thapar, Ashis Nandy and Mo Yan
- The awards will be presented on September 17 at the Fukuoka International Congress Centre
