Ashwin presented with Arjuna Award

  • Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal gave away the Arjuna Award to R. Ashwin
  • The award includes a bronze statuette, a citation and Rs. five lakh
  • Ashwin was the 48th cricketer to receive the prestigious award and he emerged as a dependable bowler
  • Ashwin captured 124 wickets  in 25 Tests, 139 scalps in 99 ODIs and 25 in 26 T20 Internationals and also scoring 1009 runs, including two hundreds in test
  • He is the fifth fastest bowler in Test history to bag 100 wickets

Indian-Origin Food Scientist Gets Prestigious International Award

  • Indian-origin food scientist Harjinder Singh, based in New Zealand has been honoured for his contribution in improving the quality, safety and processing efficiency of dairy food
  • He was recently named head of Massey University's Institute of Food Science and Technology, was conferred the "International Dairy Foods Association Award" in dairy food processing by the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA)
  • He is the first person who got the award out side North America
  • He was elected fellow of Royal Society of New Zealand in 2002 in recognition of distinction in research and the advancement of science

Mumbai-Nagpur 800 KM Expressway to be built by 2019

  • Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the government will build an 800-km-long expressway connecting Mumbai with Nagpur by September 2019
  • The estimated cost of the proposed Mumbai-Nagpur expressway is Rs30,000 crore
  • It will be second expressway in the state after Mumbai-Pune expressway and the new expressway will connect four major cities of Maharashtra — Mumbai, Nashik, Aurangabad, and Nagpur
  • The government plans to develop information technology (IT) parks, smart cities and education complexes along it
