Government to Give Rs 6,000 Crore Interest-Free Loans to Sugar Mills

  • The Union Government planned to give 6,000 Crore Interest free loans to the sugar mills as they struggling with debts.
  • India is the world biggest sugar producer next to Brazil.
  • Ministerial committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to provide a loan of Rs 6,000 crore to mills for which the government will bear the interest for a year.

Government to Bring in Ordinance to Amend Law on Cheque Bounce Cases

  • Union Cabinet decided to bring an ordinance to amend the Negotiable Instruments Act 
  • The provides for filing of cheque bounce cases in place where the cheque was issued
  • The Act, 2015 was passed in the Lok Sabha in May seeking to overturn a Supreme Court 2014 ruling that said the case has to be initiated where the cheque-issuing branch was located.

KV Chowdary and Vijai Sharma Sworn in as New Central Vigilance Commissioner and Chief Information Commissioner

  • Former Central Board of Direct Taxes head KV Chowdary, was today sworn in as the new Central Vigilance Commissioner by President Pranab Mukherjee.
  • Vijai Sharma, the senior most information commissioner, was also sworn in as the Chief Information Commissioner by the president.
