Ford foundation on Centre's watch list
The Ford Foundation, a US based funding agency which has been accused by the Gujarat government of interfering in the country's internal affairs and fanning communal disharmony, was put on the Union Ministry of Home Affairs watch list. Foundation has been included in the list of foreign funding agencies which require prior approval from the Ministry for each transaction.
Smart Maps for smart cities
The use of smart maps in Prime Minister Narendra Modi ambitious smart cities project will leads to 8 billion dollars in savings and value a year, according to a study by Global Development Advisors, a strategy and policy consulting firm. This also needs a strong policy and regulatory frame work.
World Book and Copyright Day April 23 2015
The
day is celebrated to encourage the people, in particular the youth, to discover
the pleasure of reading. World Book Day is an occasion to celebrate the
importance of books in our life. The day is organised by the UNESCO to promote
reading habits in people, especially in the youth.. Even in the
age of technology and social networking , books continue to acquire a
significant place in our life. The joy of reading a book by your favourite
author cannot be replaced by any other medium. UNESCO decided to celebrate
23rd of April as world book day as this day marks the death anniversary of both
William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes. Each year, UNESCO and the international
organizations representing the three major sectors of the book industry -
publishers, booksellers and libraries, select the World Book Capital for a
one-year period, effective 23 April each year.
Alam Back in Jail
The Jammu and Kashmir government booked Harriyat leader Masarat Alam under the Public Safety act rendering irrelevant his petition bail plea which has come up in court. He was released last month after being detained for four months and a half years under six consecutive Public Safety Act
