Dharmadhikari Committee in its report submitted to Bombay High Court
has asked Maharashtra Government to enforce a complete ban on dance bars. Major
recomendations are :
1. It advised that at the time of
registration of marriage, the bride must be asked to disclose on oath whether
dowry was demanded and that all the laws for protection of women were followed.
2. The committee also said that the
bride must declare that whether all gifts and cash received by her were kept by
her name by the family. These measures would go a long way in making the
anti-dowry law more effective, the panel, which was set up in 2010.
3. The committee also asked the state
government to frame a policy to deal with Jat Panchayats (caste councils) that
bars or punish the couples for inter-caste marriages.
4. The committee also asked the state
government to look after the children of unwed minor tribal girls and sex
workers, who are deprived of education and do not go to schools as they have to
disclose their father’s name. Thus they are kept away from the schools although
Right to Education is their Constitutional right.
5. It asked the state government to
frame a policy to check vulgarity on social networking sites such as Facebook,
twitter and other social media.
6. Social media sites are responsible
for harassing women and also develops violent tendencies among the youth as
such there is increase in cases of crime against women.
7. Further the Committee also said that
these sites have been responsible for increase in divorce cases.
1 September 2014 : Libyan parliament
reappointed Abdullah al-Thinni as the Prime Minister on 1 September
2014. This move came after the Islamists rejected the authority of the new
Parliament and asked Omar Al Hassi to form a salvation government in a week.
Subsequently, the Islamists' Misrata Forces took control over the capital
Tripoli.
2 September 2014 : Karnataka became the first State to launch a Health Adalat in Gulbarga, Karnataka. During Health Adalat the department will interact with public representatives and general citizen and understand their problems and concern, grievance about the health services and efforts would be made to provide solution then and there.
3 September 2014 : The Global
Competitiveness Report 2014-2015 assesses the competitiveness landscape of 144
economies, providing insight into the drivers of their productivity and
prosperity. The report remains the most comprehensive assessment of national
competitiveness worldwide, providing a platform for dialogue between
government, business and civil society about the actions required to improve
economic prosperity. Competitiveness is defined as the set of institutions,
policies and factors that determine the level of productivity of a country. The
level of productivity, in turn, sets the level of prosperity that can be earned
by an economy.
India continuing its downward trend
and losing 11 places, its ranks 71st. The country's new government faces the
challenge of improving competitiveness and reviving the economy, which is
growing at half the rate of 2010.
As per the Global Competitiveness
Report 2014-15, Switzerland is the most competitive economy, followed by
Singapore and United States. Other countries in the top ten are Finland (4),
Germany (5), Japan (6), Hong Kong SAR (7), Netherlands (8), United Kingdom (9)
and Sweden (10). China, which has improved its position by one place to 28th
spot, leads the BRICS grouping, among which India has the least ranking. Russia
is ranked at 53rd position, followed by South Africa (56) and Brazil (57).

7 September 2014 : American twin
brothers Mike and Bob Bryan on 7 September 2014 won the men’s doubles titles of
the US Tennis Open 2014 at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
8 September 2014 : Marin Cilic of
Croatia defeats Kei Nishikori of Japan in straight sets to win the U.S. Open
2014 Men's Singles. It is Cilic's first grand slam victory and the first time
since 1998 that there have been eight different winners of the grand slam
singles finals.
8 September 2014 : Dr. Kamal Bawa,
Dr. Alfred Oteng-Yeboah and Dr. Bibiana Vila won the 2014 Midori Prize in
Biodiversity on 8 September 2014.
8 September 2014 : World Literacy
Day was observed across the world on 8 September 2014. The theme of International
Literacy Day 2014 is Literacy and Sustainable Development.
8 September 2014 : Shri Amitabh
Kant, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of
Commerce and Industry, Government of India inaugurated a new payment gateway
office building constructed for the Intellectual Property Office of India in
New Delhi on September 8, 2014. The building is dedicated to the functioning of
the Indian Patent Office as International Searching Authority (ISA) and
International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) under the Patent
Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The ISA/IPEA building is constructed under plan
scheme of the Government of India, ‘Modernization and Strengthening of
Intellectual Property Offices’, at an expenditure of Rs 30.2 crore, provides
ample space and facilities for proper management of ISA/IPEA operations. The
building has state of the art infrastructure and a hall of fame to showcase
& highlight the notable products protected by intellectual property
A new payment gateway integrated to
the e-filing system of the Intellectual Property Office was also inaugurated by
Shri Kant. This facility enables payment using internet banking, credit cards
or debit cards of more than 70 Banks as against internet banking of 2 banks
earlier. The comprehensive e-filing facility covering all Forms was made
available earlier by IPO for patents and for trademarks. Through the launch of
new payment gateway, the online filing which has already shown a quick leap
from 25% to 75 % is expected to increase further.
9 September 2014 : Chief Minister of
Uttarakhand officially declared 9 September as Himalaya Diwas to
spread the message of conservation of the Himalayan ecosystems.
9 September 2014 : Union Ministry
for Information & Broadcasting on 9 September 2014 conferred the Bhartendu
Harishchandra Awards for the years 2012.

13 September 2014 : Haider Al-Abadi
is the 75th and current Prime Minister of Iraq. Haider al-Abadi says he
has ordered the army to stop shelling areas held by the Islamic State where
there are civilians present. A Shia Muslim, he was designated by President Fuad
Masum on 11 August 2014 as new Prime Minister of Iraq to succeed Nouri
al-Maliki and was approved by the Iraqi parliament on 8 September 2014.
27 September 2014 : President Pranab
Mukherjee on 3 September 2014 cleared the appointment of Justice Handyala
Lakshminarayanaswamy Dattu as the 42nd Chief Justice of India. Justice Dattu
will become the Chief Justice of India after the retirement of CJI R.M. Lodha
on 27 September 2014. He would hold the post until his retirement on 2 December
2015.
