  • Mamnoon Hussain elected as 12th President of Pakistan. 
  • In the Wimbledon 2013 Women's Singles Championship, Marion Bartoli of France defeats Germany's Sabine Lisicki in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. It is the first Grand Slam title for Bartoli. It is only the second Wimbledon Championship match in the Open era played by two women who have never won a Grand Slam. Andy Murray becomes the first Brit in 77 years to take the Wimbledon Men's Singles Championship. He beat number one seed Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. 
  • The International Astronomical Union names Pluto's fourth and fifth moons, Kerberos and Styx. 
  • Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, gives birth to a baby boy. Catherine gives birth in the private Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in London, the same place where Prince William was born. He is the third in line to the throne, following Prince Charles and Prince William. 
  • Former Chinese Railways Minister Liu Zhijun is given a suspended death sentence for corruption. 
  • NASA Curiosity Mars rover begins its mission to its destination and drives to Mount Sharp. 
  • The African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur confirms that seven peacekeepers were killed and 17 injured in a patrol while returning to their base in Manawashi near Nyala, the capital of Sudan's South Darfur state. 
  • A Bangladesh war crimes tribunal sentences Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami political party, to death for atrocities committed during the Bangladesh Liberation War. 
  • Mohamed Brahmi, the leader of the Tunisian People's Movement, is fatally shot outside his house in Tunis, sparking clashes between police and protesters.
